Compton Croquet Club

Welcome!

Compton Croquet Club on The Saffrons Sports Ground has been the home of croquet in Eastbourne since 1898. We have five first-class lawns and cater for both Association Croquet and Golf Croquet at all levels. Our playing season runs from April to October when the lawns are available to members from dawn to dusk every day (except during tournaments). Weather permitting, we usually try to keep one or two lawns open over the winter. Croquet is a game requiring a pleasing combination of physical skills and mental cunning. It is enjoyed by players of all ages and abilities, with men and women competing on equal terms.

If interested in learning the game without obligation, we offer three free weekly coaching sessions, normally on a Tuesday afternoon.  Once you decide to become a member you will have a warm welcome and practise your proficiency by joining in other regular gatherings. If you have played before you can arrange friendly games with other members, try the informal games on club afternoons or “Golf Gala” days, enter the club’s internal competitions (which run throughout the summer), or play in one of the open tournaments. In addition to croquet the club organises a number of social events.

With its enviable sunshine record, theatres, cinemas, fine restaurants, lavish gardens and beautiful surrounding countryside steeped in history, Eastbourne has much to offer resident and visitor alike. Come and sample the delights!
