How to find us

Compton Croquet Club is situated in the grounds of the Eastbourne Saffrons Sports Club, Compton Place Road, Eastbourne, BN21 1EA. The main entrance to Saffrons Sports Ground is a gateway in a flint wall on the east side of Compton Place Road, and almost opposite the Saffrons Court apartments.

By road:  The simplest way to get to the gateway is to use a satnav. At the time of writing, however, neither "Compton Croquet Club" nor "Saffrons Sports Club" can be relied upon to provide accurate satnav directions to the gateway. But if you enter the postcode for Saffrons Court, BN21 1DY, follow the directions until you are on Compton Place Road, and then continue along Compton Place Road, you cannot miss Saffrons Court on the west side of the road.

Look out for the gateway with the white signs on the opposite side of Compton Place Road.

Drive through the gateway, follow the road to the left and you will see the croquet club among the trees about 140 metres away.

If you have a smartphone with the what3words app installed, enter extra.news.ties and select Navigate. The directions will take you to the gateway mentioned in the previous paragraph.

Parking: You are strongly advised to park inside the Saffrons Sports Club grounds – many a wing mirror has been smashed on cars parked out on the narrow road!

By train: Through trains currently run from London Victoria at 24 and 54 minutes past each hour, reaching Eastbourne 85 minutes later – for detail and confirmation of times consult National Rail Enquiries. Leave the station through the exit adjacent to the ticket office, marked Enterprise Centre. From here you can take a taxi or follow the directions in the next paragraph.

On leaving  the station through the Enterprise Centre exit, turn to your left and you will see Terminus Road. Cross Terminus Road and turn right, and you will arrive at the Grove Road mini-roundabout. Keep to the left and you will enter Grove Road. Walk up Grove Road, pass the Town Hall on your right after about 320 metres and bear right along Meads Road with the wall of the Saffrons Sports Ground on your right. At the end of the wall turn right into Compton Place Road and after about 50 metres turn right through the gateway into the sports ground.  After entering the sports ground, turn to your left and you will see the croquet club among the trees about 140 metres away.

By air: Fly to London Gatwick and take the train to Eastbourne from Gatwick Airport railway station.  Through trains currently run at 26 and 55 minutes past each hour, reaching Eastbourne 50 minutes later. Check National Rail Enquiries to confirm times.
